Volunteering for hospice is a rewarding activity for compassionate people who want to help others in their community. Livingston County Hospice has opportunities for volunteers in several areas.

Patient Care Volunteers
As a volunteer you visit patients to provide companionship and offer respite for family caregivers. For patients, a volunteer is a reassuring presence while their family members are out of the home. Volunteers may also provide transportation to appointments or help do errands, such as getting groceries. When assigned to a case, volunteers are asked to provide two to four hours of care each week.

Bereavement Volunteers
Volunteers may also make bereavement visits after a patient’s death, to offer support and encouragement to a family member. In addition, volunteers can assist with grief support groups.

Patient care and bereavement volunteers complete a short training course, which is held at our office in Mt. Morris. The course provides education about hospice care and philosophy, attitudes toward death and dying, and responding to grief and loss. Volunteers must be emotionally mature adults with their own transportation.

Clerical Volunteers
These volunteers assist hospice staff in the office with the acknowledgement of donations and the preparation of information folders and mailings.
