Enhanced Drivers License Information

What is an EDL?

New York State offers an enhanced driver license, learner permit, and non-driver ID (EDL) that will meet the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative  (WHTI) travel document requirement for land and sea border crossings.  Travelers who are entering or re-entering the US from Cananda, Mexico and some countries in the Caribbean will be required to present approved travel documents.  A New York State EDL document can be used for travel by land and sea between the US and Canada, Mexico, an some countries in the Caribbean.    EDL documents are acceptable for air travel within the US, EDL documents are NOT for international air travel, you would need a passport for this.
