The Stop DWI Unit is a three-person unit responsible for enforcing New York State Vehicle and Traffic Laws, including DWI (Driving While Intoxicated) and DWAI (Driving While Ability Impaired) laws, making the highways of Livingston County safer places to travel.
Victim Impact Panel
In 1999, the Sheriff's Office began implementation of a Victim Impact Panel as an additional sentencing tool for persons convicted of driving while intoxicated. The Victim Impact Panel provides a non-confrontational situation where victims of crashes involving drunk drivers relate to defendants how a drinking driver, most often tragically, have affected their lives and the lives of their families. Support for this panel by village, town, and county justices and judges is gaining momentum, assuring an increase in panel attendants and frequency of sessions in the future.
