GENESEO, N.Y., Sept. 1, 2023 – Livingston County joins the State University of New York at Geneseo in its enthusiasm for the upcoming academic year as the College recently welcomed students back to the area during its Fall Convocation.
Incoming and returning undergraduate students along with transfer and graduate enrollees from all over the Country converged on the picturesque campus last week and the County couldn’t be more excited to have them here.
“On behalf of Livingston County, I want to extend a warm welcome to the members of the SUNY Geneseo family,” added Ian Coyle, Livingston County's Administrator. “The vibrancy, passion and philanthropic spirit that they bring into our communities, along with their support of small businesses throughout the County, are significant and we’re excited to have them here.”
Geneseo students have a long history of volunteerism and partnership with the County. Through programs like Livingston CARES, Volunteer Income Tax Assistance/Tax Counseling for the Elderly, The Arc of Livingston-Wyoming Counties LIVES Program, collaboration with the Livingston County Jail and more, Geneseo students have invested countless hours in improving the lives of County residents and the communities in which they reside.
In particular, Livingston CARES has had a profound influence, not only locally, but also in areas throughout the United States and beyond. Founded in 2005 following Hurricane Katrina, Livingston CARES was formed as an organization dedicated to assisting communities and individuals in humanitarian projects, particularly focusing on disaster relief and recovery.
Since its inception, Livingston CARES has collaborated with numerous local towns and villages and has had its work formally recognized by the Livingston County Board of Supervisors, which issued a Resolution offering its support and encouragement.
In addition, the County has further aligned with SUNY Geneseo in the formation of the Community Resource Network of Livingston County, which provides a system to increase communication and coordination of community resources serving Livingston County residents.
