GENESEO, N.Y., SEPTEMBER 25, 2023 – Childhood Cancer Awareness Month is recognized each September throughout the world in an effort to shine a light and raise funds for those impacted by this worldwide affliction.
In honor, and in memory, of children and their families who have had to battle cancer, Livingston County, along with the American Childhood Cancer Organization, are asking that you Go Gold. A symbol of support, the color gold or gold ribbons have come to symbolize the fight against childhood cancer.
One of the leading causes of death in youths across the world, 43 children are diagnosed with cancer in the United States every day. Additionally, nearly 400,000 children and adolescents are diagnosed worldwide annually. In spite of these eye-opening statistics, continued research and improved treatment options have made significant advancements on the overall outcome of childhood cancer as more than 80 percent of patients now become long-term survivors of the disease.
