GENESEO, N.Y., Oct. 5, 2023 — Livingston County is proud to help support the work of Chances & Changes, Inc., a not-for-profit organization serving victims of domestic violence in Livingston County, through a funding allocation included in the County’s 2023 budget.
The County’s monetary contribution helps the organization provide crucial emergency medical supplies and services for victims of domestic violence, said Karen Tremer, Chances & Changes Executive Director.
“We have always used this funding to assist only Livingston County domestic violence clients to pay for an urgent need that is not covered by any other funding source,” explained Tremer. “This may be securing medication or a necessary medical device or service when they have no insurance or it is pending. We have also used it to cover costs of other emergency needs such as necessary copies of court or Social Security documents, emergency transportation, etc. It is a small amount but invaluable to those who have needed the assistance when nothing else was available to cover the cost.”
Located within Livingston County for nearly 50 years, Chances & Changes provides a host of trauma-informed comprehensive support services for survivors of domestic violence, including a 24/7 help line and a safe shelter. The staff there is experienced in assisting clients as they navigate the criminal justice, family court, and social services systems. They also coordinate with other agencies and are familiar with community resources that can aid abuse survivors as they seek to heal and recover from their trauma.
