GENESEO, N.Y., Nov. 9, 2023 – Each November, the home care and hospice community honors the millions of nurses, home care aides, therapists and social workers who make a remarkable difference for the patients and families they serve. These heroic caregivers play a central role in our health care system and in homes across the nation. To recognize their efforts, the Livingston County Department of Health calls upon all to commemorate the power of caring, both at the home and in their local communities, and join with the National Association for Home Care & Hospice by celebrating November as National Home Care and Hospice Month.
Additionally, Home Care Aide Week takes place the second full week of the month, November 12-18, 2023. Join us in honoring these compassionate, tireless workers who play an invaluable role for their clients as caregivers, companions and friends.
In 2023, Livingston County would like to spotlight the Department of Health’s Hospice Program. Hospice is a unique program aimed at supporting anyone with a life-limiting illness who could benefit from additional support through their end-of-life journey. Hospice services are offered in nursing facilities, comfort care homes, local hospitals and even in patients’ own homes. The Livingston County Hospice program is dedicated to providing comfort and improving quality of life, in addition to offering support to both the patient and their family. The end of a life is a unique journey, one that requires a practiced blend of compassion and comfort that Livingston County Hospice is proud to offer.
Patients are eligible for Hospice care when the focus of care changes from aggressive treatments to comfort measures and management of symptoms. Talk to your doctor about the benefits of Hospice care. Admission to Hospice is based on need, meaning services are never denied because of inability to pay.
“I can't think of a better way to have taken care of my mom,” mentioned a family member of a Livingston County Hospice patient. “The nurses and aides that came took such loving care of her. Thank you for providing this service, it is such a blessing to the patients and families.”
This year, Hospice will serve and guide more than 180 families through the final phase of life.
